A Look at Layer 8 Performance Wear

Lifestyle, lifestyle & beauty By January 30, 2017 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

Anybody else out there on the fitness bandwagon? Hope it’s going well for all of you (don’t give up – you can do it!) It had been a metaphorical minute since I had been in the gym, and I had forgotten how much I actually enjoy it. So it hasn’t been all that difficult for me to stick with my plan of getting in there two or three times a week for a little bit of cardio and weights. Another thing I had forgotten was how much I enjoy buying workout wear. While it’s certainly not the most important factor in getting fit ( you can be healthy wearing whatever you want), I personally get more motivated to go to the gym if I’m wearing something that makes me feel a little more confident. What doesn’t make me feel so confident is if I have to shell out a load of my hard-earned money to acquire said clothing. Thankfully I came across Layer 8,  a brand of athletic wear that is very high-quality and at the same time won’t break the bank!

Colourpop Lippie Stix – Review

Lifestyle, lifestyle & beauty, Reviews By January 23, 2017 Tags: , , , , , , , , No Comments

Welcome back to the other side of the blog everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed my last post, and if you missed it I’ve linked it here for you. I happen to have a not-so-closeted interest in beauty products, and one of the things that holds my interest is the seemingly never-ending variety of options available to women and girls these days. When I was younger, there were basically two types of cosmetics; drugstore lines that were affordable but maybe not always the best quality, and department store makeup counter products that were of great quality, but would require a serious chunk of change. So you could get your pink-and-green Maybelline mascara, or your go-to Estee Lauder foundation. All brands produced what they produced; you took it and you liked it. Thankfully things have changed these days, and if you consider yourself to be on the cusp of the latest brands, you know all about L.A.-based company Colourpop. If you don’t know about them, stick around, because here’s a little taste of a brand whose level of success is only going to grow.

Better Know A Food Term II

Uncategorized By January 19, 2017 Tags: , , , , , , , , , No Comments

Welcome back everyone! I decided to venture back into the mysterious realm of little-known food terms this week, and I’ve got some kind of unique ones this time around. If you didn’t see my first installment, you can read that here. I always find these interesting, and one of the words is a food that I had actually never heard of (my readers to the far north can have a little chuckle at my expense.) So let’s get right into things…

Lefse (lef-seh) – I freely admit that I am not familiar with this particular item. I had heard of it in the past, but never really knew exactly what it was, let alone tried it. It is probably very well known by any readers in the northern US, as it is a product of Scandinavian cuisine. This soft, almost crepe-like potato-based bread  is a standard in Norway and in US states with larger Scandinavian-American populations. It is enjoyed mostly around the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. In many homes it is a tradition for several people to gather to make lefse, as it is a bit of a process. Besides potatoes, the recipe includes cream, flour and eggs, and is cooked on a flat-top griddle and turned with special long wooden sticks. There are many ways to flavor them for presentation; some use fruit preserves, sugar, honey, cinnamon or peanut butter, although they can also be made savory with eggs, ham or beef. It is also a rather celebrated item, garnering its own festivals in northern states like the Dakotas and Minnesota.  And I have every intention of trying lefse as soon as possible! (Wikipedia.com)

L’Oreal Wrinkle Expert Day/Night Moisturizer

Lifestyle, lifestyle & beauty By January 16, 2017 Tags: , , , , No Comments

So here we are guys, the first non-food-related post on the blog. I wanted to talk about this because I am starting to get a bit older, and taking care of my skin is becoming more and more of a priority. I started using the L’Oreal Wrinkle Expert line of moisturizer last summer, and like most summer romances, I fell hard and fast. And unlike most summer romances, this one actually lasted. I did take a bit of a break and tried one from another L’Oreal line, and while it was nice and it worked and all those other little sweet things I can say about it, it just wasn’t my Wrinkle Expert.

Talking ‘Bout Babka

Uncategorized By January 12, 2017 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

Guys, I don’t know if you knew this about me,  but I’m a baker. Not an uber-professional, documented Cordon-Bleu grad or anything, but I have a natural yen for oven-made goodies. And while I love it dearly, there are some aspects of the dessert realm that I never really had the courage to venture into; sugar work, for example. I feel that it takes a special hand and level of patience that maybe I don’t yet possess. Another area that gave me pause was bread making; the kneading, the proofing, the using the right flours, it was all too stressful for my tiny brain. But for the past couple of months, it has been in and out of my mind that I should at least attempt it, not only because I’m positively zany about all breads, but because the practice would just do me good. So I thought, why not start with a classic sweet-style bread that, even if I screwed up, I could still enjoy. So let’s talk babka…
