Love With Food Box #12

So it’s the first LWF box of the new year, and they sent a few new interesting things this time. I’ve enjoyed every box I’ve received so far, and plan on continuing my subscription. It’s nice to know that there are so many companies (large and small) out there that are focused on quality, health(ier) ingredients, and a commitment to bettering life for their consumers and their community.

Corn and Sea Salt Chips by The Better Chip – this is one of several flavors of chip by The Better Chip company. I received the Spinach and Kale flavor in another box, which I talked about here. Their products have all the usual good stuff that I enjoy; non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free. on Twitter @TheBetterChip or IG #thebetterchip

This month’s box seemed to come out of nowhere: timeΒ is flying by faster and faster these days. This particular box seemed dominated by brands I have previously enjoyed, sprinkled with a few new items. But enough chatter, let’s get into the box!

Sweet Potato Chips by Dirty Potato Chips – I had heard of these before, but never tried them out. And because of my love for all things sweet potato (well, almost) I had no qualms about giving these a try. I definitely wasn’t disappointed; the chips were crunchy, not too greasy or oily, and seasoned adequately. The company, based in Memphis, TN, has been at it since 1987, and seem to be doing a fine job of making a common snacking favorite not quite so bad for you. Their chips – available in a wide variety of flavors, from Sea Salt to Smoky Chipotle – are free of the usual baddies like GMOs, gluten and hydrogenated oils, but thankfully has loads of flavor.Β or on Twitter @dirtyschips

Honey Grahams Sticks by Back To Nature – I had tasted the products of this great brand back in the spring, and talked about it here. Their Honey Graham Sticks were delicious, not too dry or too sweet, and would be ideal for dipping. or on IG #backtonature

Ok everyone, another month has arrived, and with it another delicious and interesting Love With Food Box. This has not only become a highlight for me each month, but has also compelled me to start researching other food subscription boxes (I’ll keep you updated on my decision.) In the meantime, let’s take a look at what arrived in my current box.

Cheddar and Pepper Puffed Corn by Cosmo’s Creations – this was a company I had noticed before but had not yet had the chance to try. Begun in 2004, it was later purchased by the 4 Him Food Group, further developing the variety (and reach) of their product. They specialize in puffed corn snacks, guaranteed to be without hulls, kernels, gluten or trans fats, and is produced from non-GMO corn. I received the Cheddar and Pepper flavor, but two other savory and four sweet flavors are available, including Sri Racha and Caramel Apple. The puffs were very tasty; light and not greasy as some run-of-the-mill cheese puffs can be. Definitely worth checking out. on Twitter @CosmosCreations or IG #cosmoscreations

It’s time once againΒ to review some more delicious samples of products that are both good for you and for the world around you. And while this particular box was a little lighter than usual on actual samples, there were some interesting new products, and a return visit with some old favorites.

Snap Pea Crisps by Harvest Snaps – Harvest snaps is actually a division of its parent company, Calbee. Originating in Japan, making fun and unique snacks that gained widespread popularity, the company expanded to North America in 1970, and the progress continued on from there. The company introduced their Snap Pea Crisps to the public in 1999 in an effort to give consumers a product that was delicious and all-natural. In a move to support their surrounding community, they partnered with J.D. Offut, that largest producers and distributors of potatoes in the U.S., to help them connect with and utilize local farmers to source their products. Harvest Snaps come in the original snap-pea form (with four flavors) and new red lentil snaps, available in delicious Tomato Basil and Onion Thyme flavors. I received the Lightly Salted Snap Peas, and they were far more tasty than I expected them to be. I’ve tried other veggie-based “fries” and they basically come across like straws of Styrofoam. There were substantial, flavorful and crunchy. Oh, and they’re gluten-free and non-GMO. You know I’m about that life. Try some! on Twitter @HarvestSnaps or on IG #harvestsnaps

It has come to the point where I am really looking forward to getting my subscription box each month. There is always something new and interesting, and very few things have not been to my taste. I also appreciate that basically everything falls into the healthy category in some way or another. So here’s a little rundown of what I received this month; a few repeats and some delicious new items as well.

Apple Hard Candy by Go Organic – I was pretty excited to get this full-sized bag of candies in the box, especially since I tried some of the Mint Iced Tea flavor as samples in another box, which I talked about here. As expected they were delicious, and thankfully didn’t have that chemical “fake” apple taste. on Twitter @HillsideCandy or IG #goorganiccandy

Here we go again guys. The crew over at LWF have sent another tasting box full of interesting samples (both large and small), and were more of the same good-and-good-for you items I have come to expect every month from them. Despite the fact that the official theme of this month’s box was “Surfin’ USA”, the mantra should have been, “Do One Thing and Do It Well.” All of the samples were made by companies who specialize in one or two items and produce them to a very high standard. So let’s jump in and see what I got.

Hawaiian BBQ chips by One Potato Two Potato – Did you know that the largest potato grower in the US is actually Pennsylvania (sorry Idaho)? It’s true, and the nice folks at OPTP have there headquarters in the little town of Womelsdorf. They take a lot of pride in producing a chip that is gluten-free, has no MSGs, and no artificial ingredients. And you can tell – they aren’t heavy, greasy or oily like most run-of-the-mill chips can be, and the Hawaiian BBQ flavor was a nice little twist on the more common style of its competitors. They also offer Sweet Potato, Cracked Pepper, Sea Salt and Sweet Onion flavors to tickle your fancy. The bag that I received had two servings in it (about thirty chips), and contains 190mg of sodium, and no cholesterol or trans fats (that’s per serving, btw.) Delicious, crunchy, and I don’t feel quite as guilty about snacking on them? Sold!
